Directions for Question: The questions consist of two statements each, printed as assertion and reason. While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following four responses:

Assertion: Isotopes of an element can be separated by using a mass spectrometer. Reason: Separation of isotopes is possible because of the difference in electron numbers of isotopes. These questions consist of two statements each, printed as Assertion (A) and Reason (R). While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following four responses.

    A) If both A and R are true, and R is a correct explanation of the A.

    B) If both A and R are true, but R is not a correct explanation of the A.

    C) If A is true, but R is false.

    D) If both A and R are false.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Isotopes have same number of electrons and protons but different neutron number. Thats why the mass number of isotopes are different and can be separated by using a mass spectrometer.
