The primary winding of a transformer has 500 turns and its secondary has 5000 turns. If  primary is connected to a.c. supply of 20 V and 50 Hz, then secondary will have an output of

    A) 200 V, 50 Hz

    B)        2 V, 5 Hz

    C)        2 V, 50 Hz

    D)        200 V, 500 Hz.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Given: Number of turns in the primary \[{{N}_{1}}=500\] Number of turns in the secondary \[{{N}_{2}}=5000\] Input voltage \[{{V}_{1}}=20V\] Output voltage \[{{V}_{2}}=?\] We know that \[\left| {{V}_{2}} \right|=\frac{{{N}_{2}}}{{{N}_{1}}}{{V}_{1}}\] \[=\frac{5000}{500}\times 20=200V\] As in a transformer the output frequency of the ac supply remains the same as that of the input supply, the frequency of the output current will be 50 Hz.
