Water current in Leucosolenia is produced by:

    A)  pinacocytes

    B)         choanocytes

    C)         archeocytes

    D)         tenocytes

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The choanocytes line the cavity of water current (canal). These are avoid cells with one end embedded in the mesophyl and the other exposed. The exposed end bears a flagellum surrounded by a collar which is made up of adjacent microvilli. The microvilli are connected to each other by delicate microfibrils, forming the fine filterating device for straining food particles from the water. The beat of the flagellum pulls water through the sieve like collar and jorces it out through the open top of the collar and in this way the choanocytes maintain the water current.
