Directions for Question: The questions consist of two statements each, printed as assertion and reason. While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following four responses:

Assertion: Equivalent conductance of all electrolytes decreases with increasing concentration. Reason: Lesser number of ions are available per g equivalent at higher concentration.

    A)  If both A and R are true, and R is a correct explanation of the A.

    B)  If both A and R are true, but R is not a correct explanation of the A.

    C)  If A is true, but R is false.

    D)  If both A and R are false.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Equivalent conductance is defined as the conducting power of all the ions produced by one equivalent in a given solution. Therefore, at higher concentrations, degree of dissociation of electrolyte is less. Degree of dissociation can be increased by dilution.
