Directions for Question: The questions consist of two statements each, printed as assertion and reason. While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following four responses:

Assertion: Bond order can assume any value n umber including zero. Reason: Higher the bond order, shorter is bond length and greater is bond energy.

    A)  If both A and R are true, and R is a correct explanation of the A.

    B)  If both A and R are true, but R is not a correct explanation of the A.

    C)  If A is true, but R is false.

    D)  If both A and R are false.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Bond order \[=\frac{1}{2}\,\left[ \begin{matrix}    No.\,of\,bonding & No.\,of\,antibonding  \\    orbital\,electrons & orbital\,electrons  \\ \end{matrix} \right]\,\]. The bond order zero indicates that the bond does not exist.
