AFMC AFMC Solved Paper-2011

  • question_answer
One mole of oxygen at 273 K and one mole of sulphur dioxide at 546 K are taken in two separate containers, then,

    A) kinetic energy of \[{{O}_{2}}>\] kinetic energy of \[S{{O}_{2}}\]

    B) kinetic energy of \[{{O}_{2}}<\]kinetic energy of \[S{{O}_{2}}\]

    C) kinetic energy of both are qual

    D) None of the above

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

     \[\because \]              \[KE=\frac{3}{2}RT\] \[\therefore \]               \[KE\propto T\] or              \[\frac{K{{E}_{{{O}_{2}}}}}{K{{E}_{S{{O}_{2}}}}}=\frac{{{T}_{{{O}_{2}}}}}{{{T}_{S{{O}_{2}}}}}=\frac{273}{546}=\frac{1}{2}\]                     \[K{{E}_{S{{O}_{2}}}}=2K{{E}_{{{O}_{2}}}}\] \[\therefore \]                 \[K{{E}_{S{{O}_{2}}}}>K{{E}_{{{O}_{2}}}}\]
