  • question_answer
Violet coloured complex obtained in the detection of sulphur is

    A)  \[\text{N}{{\text{a}}_{2}}[Fe(NO){{(CN)}_{5}}]\]

    B)  \[N{{a}_{3}}[Fe(ONS){{(CN)}_{5}}]\]

    C)   \[N{{a}_{4}}[Fe{{(CN)}_{5}}NOS]\]

    D)  Both  and

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Sulphur of organic compounds is detected by using sodium nitroprusside. With it sulphur forms a violet colour complex, called sodium thionitroprusside. \[N{{a}_{2}}S+\underset{\text{sodium nitroprusside}}{\mathop{N{{a}_{2}}[Fe{{(CN)}_{5}}NO]}}\,\xrightarrow{{}}\]  \[\underset{\text{sodium thionitroprusside}}{\mathop{N{{a}_{4}}[Fe{{(CN)}_{5}}NOS]}}\,\]
