Inheritance of ?ABO? blood group shows :

    A) polyploidy

    B) incomplete dominance

    C) multipleallelism

    D) polygeny

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

A gene may have more than two allels. These allilomorphs are called multiple alleles. They are usualycharacterised by their location on the same locus and therefore by lack of corssing over between them. Blood group inheritance in human beings is determined by three alleles i.e., IA,I B and i. Leaf form in cotton, seed coat colour in maize, red-white eye colour series in Drosophila, coat pigment in Rabbit, etc., are all controlled by multiple alleles. Polygeny : It is the complete expression of a trait controlled by two or more genes in which a dominant allele of each gene contributes only a unit fraction of the trait and complete trait develops only by sum total /additive/cumulative effect of all the dominant genes (polygenes). e.g., kernel colour in wheat, skin colour in humans. Polyploidy : It is the phenomenon of having more than two genomes or sets oi chromosomes producing an abmomal variation through mutation, colchicine (mitotic poison) etc. It leads to improvement as well aj production of new species.
