AFMC AFMC Solved Paper-2005

  • question_answer
\[CaC{{O}_{3}}CaO+C{{O}_{2}}\] reaction in a line goes to completion because :

    A) CaO does not react to \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\] to give \[CaC{{O}_{3}}\]

    B) backward reaction is very low

    C) \[C{{O}_{2}}\] formed escapes out

    D) one of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

In the lime kiln, the \[\text{C}{{\text{O}}_{\text{2}}}\]formed during decomposition of calcium carbonate escapes out continuously. Hence, the reaction is not a  reversible one and  proceeds  towards completion. On the other hand if the reaction takes place in a closed container where none of the reactant or product is allowed to escape then the reaction soon reaches the equilibrium state.
