    \[_{1}{{\mu }_{2}}=\frac{\text{Apparent depth}}{\text{Real depth}}=\frac{{{x}_{app}}}{{{x}_{r}}}\] Putting the numerical values, we have               \[{{x}_{r}}=24\,cm,{{\,}_{1}}{{\mu }_{2}}=\frac{4}{3}\] \[\Rightarrow \]                  \[\frac{4}{3}=\frac{{{x}_{app}}}{24}\] \[\Rightarrow \]      \[{{x}_{app}}=32\,cm\] Therefore, the object will appear 32 cm above the surface of the water.
