Which of the following is the phosphorylating unit?

    A)                 Oxysome

    B)                 Mesosome

    C)                 Peroxisome

    D)                 Mitochondria

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The inner membrane of mitochondria contains finger like projections called cristae towards the matrix side. The cristae contains numerus minute, club-shaped particles towards the matirx side, these are called oxysomesor \[{{F}_{1}}\] particles. Each oxisome particle has a base pan embedded in the cristae, a stalk and a knob like head at the tip of the stalk. The head piece of the oxysome is associated with ATP synthesis and possesses the coupling enzyme ATPase which participates in the final step of oxidative phosphorylation.                 ?Anenlarged cristae                 ?Anenlarged oxysome
