    One tap can fill of a water tank in 10 minutes and another can make the filled tank empty in 60 minutes. If both the tabs are open, in how many hours will the empty tank be filled?

    Solution :

     \[\therefore \]  First tap in 10 minutes fills \[\frac{1}{4}\]part. \[\therefore \]  First tap in 1 minutes fill \[\frac{1}{40}\] part. Another tap empty 1 part in 60 minutes \[\therefore \]  In 1 minute it will empty \[\frac{1}{60}\] part. \[\therefore \]  If both tap opened together then part filled in 1 minute \[=\frac{1}{40}-\frac{1}{60}=\frac{3-2}{120}=\frac{1}{120}\] \[\therefore \]  Time taken by both pipes to fill the water tank \[=\frac{\frac{1}{1}}{120}=120\] minutes = 2 hours
