    The cost of 25 pencils and 20 sharpeners is Rs 100. If the cost of one sharpener is 50 paise more than the cost of a pencil, then what is the total cost of 3 pencils and 4 sharpeners?

    Solution :

    Area of each rectangular bed = HCF of 456 and 1032 = 24 m2 breadth of the bed = \[\frac{24}{8}\]= 3m Ra \[x\to \] cost of 1 pencil Rs y \[\to \] cost of 1 sharpener then, 25x+ 20y = 100 also \[y=x+\frac{50}{100}=x+\frac{1}{2}\] \[\begin{align} & \therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\,25x+20\left( x+\frac{1}{2} \right)=100 \\ & 45x=90\Rightarrow x=Rs\,\,2 \\ & \therefore \,\,\,\,\,\,\,y=Rs\left( 2+\frac{1}{2} \right)=Rs\frac{5}{2} \\ \end{align}\] Cost of 3 pencils + 4 sharpeners \[=\,\,\,\,\,Rs\left( 3\times 2+4\times \frac{5}{2} \right)=Rs\left( 6+10 \right)\]= Rs 16
