If the height of right circular cone is increased by 200% and the radius of the base is reduced by 50% then the volume of the cone

    A) Increased by 25%

    B) increased by 50%

    C) Remains unaltered

    D) decreased by 25%

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Let the height of right circular cone be h cm and radius of base is r cm. \[\therefore \] Volume of cone, \[{{V}_{1}}=\frac{1}{3}\pi {{r}^{2}}h\] New height\[=\frac{300\times h}{100}=3h\,cm\] and       new radius\[=\frac{50\times r}{100}=\frac{r}{2}\] \[\therefore \]    New volume\[=\frac{1}{3}\pi \frac{{{r}^{2}}}{4}\times 3h=\frac{3}{4}({{V}_{1}})\] Thus, the volume of cone is decreased by 25%
