Four years ago, the ratio of A's age to B's age was 11:14 and four years later, their ages will be in the ratio 13 : 16. The present age of .A is

    A) 48 yr

    B) 26 yr

    C) 44 yr

    D) 28 yr

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let the ages of A and B four years ago be 11x and 14x yr respectively. According to the question, After 4 yr             \[\frac{11x+8}{14x+8}=\frac{13}{16}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[176x+128=182x+104\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[182x-176x=128-104\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[6x=24\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x=\frac{24}{6}=4\] \[\therefore \] A's present age \[=(11x+4)\,yr\]                         \[=11\times 4+4=48\,yr\]
