69 is to be divided into 3 parts such that the first number is the arithmetic mean of the other two numbers. The second number is 4 more than the third number. The three numbers are

    A) 23, 27, 19

    B) 21, 27, 23

    C) 23, 25, 21

    D) 19, 29, 21

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the third number be x. \[\therefore \] Second number \[=x+4\] Arithmetic mean of x arid \[x+4\]             \[=\text{ (}x+x+4\text{)}/2=(2x+4)/2=x+2\] \[\therefore \]      First number \[=x+2\] \[\therefore \]      \[x+2+x+4+x=69\] Or         \[3x+6=69\] Or         \[3x=69-6\]             \[x=\text{63/3}\]             \[x=21\] \[\therefore \]      First number \[=21+2=23;\] Second number \[=21+4=25;\] Third number = 21
