  • question_answer
An 85 m long rod is divided into two parts. If one part is \[\frac{2}{3}\] of the other part, then the longer part (in m) is

    A) 34

    B) \[56\frac{2}{3}\]

    C) 85

    D) 51

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the length of first part = x m \[\therefore \] The length of another part             \[=(85-x)m\] According to question,             \[x=\frac{2}{3}(85-x)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[3x=170-2x\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{170}{5}=34\] \[\therefore \] The length of first part = 34 m and the length of second part             \[=85-34\]             \[=51\,m\]
