    Enumerate the precautions to be taken while reading a clinical thermometer.

    Answer:

    The following precautions are to be taken while reading a clinical thermometer:
    (i) Thermometer should be washed before and after use, preferably with an antiseptic solution.
    (ii) By giving a jerk, ensure that before use, the mercury level is below.                         
    (iii) Keep the thermometer below the tongue of the person for 30 ? 60 seconds.                                 
    (iv) Read the thermometer keeping the level of mercury along the line of sight.                                   
    (v) Do not hold the thermometer by the bulb while reading the temperature.
