    Nylon is a synthetic fibre. In fact, it was the first synthetic fibre entirely made of chemicals. The chemical compounds used in making nylon are obtained from petroleum products. It was developed in the 1935 as an alternative to silk. Nylon is made up of repeating units of a chemical called amide. Nylon fibres are very strong, fairly elastic, lightweight and lustrous. It can also be dyed easily, making the fabric available in a wide array of colors for consumers. Nylon is a thermoplastic and very sensitive to heat. Due to light weight, incredible tensile strength, durability and resistance to damage, nylon fibres are used in wide range of applications such as garments, ropes, tents, fishing nets, parachutes etc. Clothes made of nylon fibres are very strong, light and wrinkle resistant.
