II. B lives on an even-numbered floor. B does not live above or below the vacant floor. Only one person lives between B's and C's floor. D lives immediately below E's floor.

 From statement I. Hence from statement I it is clear that A lives on the 5th floor. From statement II. From statement II it is clear that A lives on the fifth floor. Hence either statement I or statement II alone is sufficient.
