  • question_answer
The present age of Sumit and Swati are in the ratio of\[6:7\]. After 6 years, the ratio of their ages will be\[15:17\]. What was the age of Swati two years before?

    A)  28 years

    B)  26 years

    C)         22 years

    D)         19 years

    E)         None of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Let the age of Sunlit be 6x and that of Swati be 7x. Then, after 6 years \[\frac{6x+6}{7x+6}=\frac{15}{17}\] or, \[102x+102=105x+90\] or,\[3x=12\] or\[x=\frac{12}{3}=4\]years \[\therefore \]Age of Swati\[=4\times 7=28\]years \[\therefore \]2 years before age of Swati\[=28-2=26\]years             Quicker Method: Present\[\to 6\]    :   \[7\times (17-15=2)=12\,\,\,\,:\,\,\,\,24\]                                                            \[\downarrow -3\]\[\downarrow +3\] +6 years\[\to 15\]           :     \[17\times (7-6=1)=15\,\,\,\,:\,\,\,\,17\] In ratio term, 3 = 6 years \[\therefore \]Age of Swati = 14 = 28 years \[\therefore \]Her age 2 years ago \[=(28-2=)26\] years
