    What was the effective percentage increase in population of state 'A' from 1999 to 2001?

    Solution :

     Let the population of State A in 1999 be x. \[\therefore \] Population in 2000             \[=x\times \frac{140}{100}\] Population in 2001 \[=\frac{x\times 140\times 145}{100\times 100}=\frac{203x}{100}\] \[=x\left( 1+\frac{103}{100} \right)\]             Clearly, effective percentage increase = 103%
