     Let the number be\[x\].      According to the question \[\frac{x\,\,\,\,\,\,78}{100}=2496\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x=\frac{2496\,\,\,\,\,\,100}{78}=3200\] \[\therefore \]  \[55%\] of  \[3200=\frac{55\,\,\,\,\,\,3200}{100}\]                              =1760
