    Let the ages of P, Q and R are a, b, c \[\Rightarrow \] \[a+b=40,\,b+c=38\] and \[c+a=42\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[a+b+c=\frac{40+38+42}{2}=60\] \[\Rightarrow \]  \[a=22,\,b=18\]  and \[c=20\]
