Direction: Each of the following questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer question.
How many students are there in the class?
    I. There are more than 20 but less that 27 students in the class.
II. There are more than 24 but less than 31 students in the class. The number of students in the class can be divided into groups such that each group contains 5 students.
    Give answer

    A) if the data in Statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question

    B) if the data in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question

    C) if the data either in Statement I alone or Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question

    D) if the data in both the Statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question

    E) if the data in both the Statements I and II are together necessary to answer the question

    Correct Answer: E

    Solution :

    From Statement I.
    Number of students in class = 21 or 26 or 27 or 28 or 29 or 30
Since, number of students can be divided into groups of 5 students, therefore number of students must be a multiple of 5.
    \[\therefore \]Number of students in the class = 25 or 30
On combining Statements I and II.
Number of students in the class = 25
Hence, the data in both the statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
