  • question_answer
The sum of the ages of father and a son presently is 70 yr. After 10 yr, the son's age is exactly half that of the father. What are their ages now?

    A) 45 yr, 25 yr

    B) 50 yr, 20 yr

    C) 47 yr, 23 yr

    D) 50 yr, 25 yr

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Suppose, the present age of son = x yr and present age of father\[=(70-x)\] yr
    According to the question.
    \[2\,(x+10)=(70-x+10)\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[2\,x+20=80-x\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[3x=60\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=20\]
    So, son’s present age = 20 yr
    And father’s present age\[=70-20=50\text{ }yr\]
