The present age of Ravi's father is four times Ravi's present age. Five years back, Ravi's father was seven times as old as Ravi was at that time. What is the present age of Ravi's father?

    A) 84 yr

    B) 70 yr

    C) 40 yr

    D) 35 yr

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let the present age of Ravi be \[x\,\,yr.\]
\[\therefore \]The present age of his father \[=4x\,\,yr\]
Now, five years back, age of Ravi \[=(x-5)\,\,yr\]
and age of Ravi's is father \[=(4x-5)\,\,yr\]
    According to the question,
    \[(4x-5)=(x-5)\times 7\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[4x-5=7x-35\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[3x=30\]
    \[\therefore \]                  \[x=10\]
Hence, present age of Ravi's father = 4x
                            \[=10\times 4=40\,\,yr\]
