The age of the father is 30 yr more, than the son's age 10 yr. Hence, the father's age will become three times the son's age that time. What is the son's present age in years?                                               [SBI (PO) 2011]

    A) 8 yr

    B) 7 yr

    C) 5 yr

    D) Cannot be determined

    E) None of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Let the son's present age by \[x\,\,yr.\]Then, the father's present age is \[(x+30)\,\,yr.\]
    Father's age after \[10\,\,yr=(x+40)\,\,yr\]
    Son's age after \[10\,\,yr=(x+10)\,\,yr\]
    Now, according to the question,
    \[(x+40)=3\,\,(x+10)\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x+40=3x+30\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[2x=10\,\,yr\]
    \[\therefore \]      \[x=5\,\,yr\]
