A box filled with paper bundles weights 36 kg. If the weight of the box and paper bundles, respectively are in the ratio of 3 : 22, then the weight (in grams) of the papers is                                             [SSC (CGL) 2012]

    A) 30680

    B) 30710

    C) 31500

    D) 31680

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Ratio of weight of box and paper bundles \[=3:22\]
    Weight of the book \[=3x\,\,g\]
    Weight of the bundles \[=22\,x\,g\]
    \[\therefore \]      \[3x+22x=36\times 1000\,\,g\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[25x=36000\]
    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{36000}{25}=1440\,\,g\]
Weight of the paper \[=22\times 1440=31680\,\,g\]
    Alternate Method
Weight of paper bundles \[=\frac{a}{a+b}\times p\]
where, p = Total weight and a, b-are individual weights
    \[\therefore \]Weight \[=\frac{22}{25}\times 36\,\,kg=\frac{22\times 36\times 100}{25}=31680\,\,g\]
