Directions: In each of these questions, one question is given followed by data in three statements I, II and III. You have to study the question and the data in statements and decide the question can be answered with data in which of the statements and mark your answer accordingly.                                                           [SBI (PO) 2011]
What is the speed (in km/h) of the train a. km/h?
    I. The train crosses an x m long platform in m s.
II. The length of the train is y m.
III. The train crosses a signal pole in m s.

    A) II and III

    B) I and III

    C) Any two of the three

    D) Question cannot be answered even with information in all three statements

    E) All of the above

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    From statements I and II,
    Speed of the train \[=\left( \frac{x+y}{n} \right)\times \frac{18}{5}km/h\]
    From statement II and III,
    Speed of the train \[=\left( \frac{y}{m}\times \frac{18}{5} \right)km/h\]
    From statements I and II,
Let the length of the train be \[l\,\,m.\]
    \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{l}{m}=\frac{x+l}{n}\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[\left( \frac{mx}{n-m} \right)m\]
    \[\therefore \]Speed of the trains \[=\left( \frac{\frac{mx}{n-m}}{m} \right)\times \frac{18}{5}km/h\]
