By selling 1 dozen ball pens, a, shopkeeper earned the profit equal to the selling price of 4 ball pens. His profit per cent is

    A) \[50\]%

    B) \[40\]%

    C) \[33\frac{1}{3}\]%

    D) \[33\frac{1}{4}\]%

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Profit = SP of 4 pen
    \[\text{Profit}=\text{SP}-\text{CP}\]
SP of 4pen = SP of 12pen\[-\,\,\text{CP}\] of 12 pen
    \[\therefore \]CP of 12 pen = SP of 8 pen
    Gain% = \[\frac{SP\,-CP}{CP}\,\times \]100% = \[\left( \frac{SP}{CP}\,-\,1 \right)\,\times \]100%
    \[=\,\left( \frac{3}{2}\,-\,1 \right)\,\times \]100% = \[\frac{1}{2}\,\times \]100% =50%
