    In the year 2013, out of the total number of books sold in the fiction category, 4/15th of the books sold were written by Indian authors. Numbers of books written by the foreign authors in the fiction category form, what per cent of the total number of books sold (non-fiction and fiction category together) in the year 2013?

    Solution :

    Total number of books sold in year 2013 = 1240
    Number of fiction books sold \[=1240\times \frac{3}{4}=930\]
    Number of books written by Indian authors
                \[=930\times \frac{4}{15}=62\times 4=248\]
    Number of books written by foreign authors
                \[=930-248=682\]
    \[\therefore \] Required percentage \[=\,\frac{682}{1240}\,\times \,100\]%\[=\,55\]%
