Montreal Protocol which calls for appropriate action to protect the ozone layer from human activities was passed in the year 1987. To date, more than 175 countries have signed the Montreal Protocol. Earth Summit was held in Rio-de-Janerio (Brazil) and adopted the recommendations of CCC (Convention on Climate Change) for reducing greenhouse gases. The recommendations were signed by 154 nations. They pledged to freeze the emission of greenhouse gases at 1990 level.
