    A ray of light falls on a prism ABC (AB = BC) and travels as shown in the figure. The refracting index of the prism material should be greater than:

    Solution :

    As we know that,  \[\sin \theta \,\,C\ge \frac{1}{\mu }\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\sin {{45}^{o}}\ge \frac{1}{\mu }\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\mu \ge \sqrt{2}\] or  \[{{\mu }_{\min }}=\sqrt{2}\]. Thus the value of \[\mu \] should be greater than\[\sqrt{2}\] .
