For reaction \[\alpha A\to x\,P,\]when\[[A]=2.2\text{ }mM\], the rate was found to be\[2.4\text{ }mM{{s}^{-1}}\]. On reducing the concentration of A to half, the rate changes to\[0.4\text{ }mM{{s}^{-1}}\]. The order of reaction will respect to A is:

    A) 1.5

    B) 2.0

    C) 2.5

    D) 3.0

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    [b] 2.0 Rate \[(r)=k\,{{[A]}^{\alpha }}\] \[\therefore \,\,2.4=k\times {{(202)}^{\alpha }}\]             On reducing the concentration of half i.e., when [A] = 1.1 m M, rate = \[0.6\text{ }m\text{ }M{{s}^{-1}}\] Hence, \[0.6=k\,{{(1.1)}^{\alpha }}\] Dividing (i) by (ii) \[4=2{}^\circ \] \[\therefore \alpha =2\]
