Which of the following combinations is correct?

    A)  Metal ions loosely attached with Apoenzyme Activators

    B)  Non-protein organic part attached tightly to Apoenzyme - Prosthetic group

    C)  Non protein organic part attached loosely to Apoenzyme - Coenzyme

    D)  All of the above

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

A complete conjugate enzyme, consisting of an apo- enzyme and a cofactor is called holoenzyme. Cofactor is a small heat stable part of a conjugate enzyme. It may be organic or inorganic in nature. Organic cofactors are of two types, they are coenzymes and prosthetic groups: Coenzymes are easily separable organic cofactors, e.g., Nucleotides of vitamins, nicotinamide (such as NAD) and riboflavin (such as FAD) act as coenzyme of many oxidizing enzymes of the mitochondria.
