    [c] Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) was launched By NDA government on 25 December 2000. It is on the lookout for the 'poorest of the poor' [1] by providing them 35 kilograms of rice and wheat at Rs.3 & Rs.2 per kg respectively. Under this scheme one crore of the poorest among the BPL families covered under the targeted public distribution system were identified. Poor families were identified by the respective state rural development facility through a below poverty line survey. The scheme has been further expanded twice by additional 50 lakh BPL families each in June 2003 and in August 2004,thus covering 2 crore families under the AAY scheme .
