Monsoons are active for about six months in Kerala and for less than three months in Rajasthan because

    A)  Rajasthan is away from sea

    B)  Late arrival and early retreat of the summer monsoons

    C)  Mountain barriers

    D)  Desert conditions in Rajasthan

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

[b] Kerala is in the southern part of the western coast of lndia where monsoon reaches first. The normal dates of arrival and withdrawal of the monsoons in Kerala are June and December respectively. Thus the monsoons are active in Kerala for about six months. In contrast, Rajasthan is located far away from the sea in the north-western part of India where the monsoon reaches in the first week of July and retreats in the first week of September. Thus the monsoons are active for only three months in Rajasthan.
