    A tank has a leak which would empty the completely filled tank in 10 h. If the tank is full of Water and a tap is opened which admits 4 L of water per minute in the tank, the leak takes 15 h to empty the tank. How many litres of water does the hold?

    Solution :

    Let the capacity of the tank = x litres According to the question, Quantity of water emptied by the leak in 1 h \[=\frac{x}{10}\text{L}\]        Quantity of water filled by the tap in 1 h = 240 L According to the question,                         \[\frac{x}{10}-\frac{x}{15}=240\]             \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{3x-2x}{30}=240\]             \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{x}{30}=240\]             \[\therefore \]      \[x=240\times 30=7200\,\,\text{L}\]
