Two cars 'X' and 'Y are running towards each other from two different places 88 km apart. If the ratio of the speed of the cars 'X' and 'Y' is respectively 5 : 6 and the speed of the car 'Y' is 90 km/h, at what time will the two meet each other?

    A)  36 min

    B)                     24 min

    C)  32 min

    D)  28 min

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    \[\frac{\text{Speed}\,\,\text{of}\,\,\text{car}\,\,x}{\text{Speed}\,\,\text{of}\,\,\text{car}\,\,y}=\frac{5}{6}\] \[\therefore \]      Speed of car \[=x=\frac{5}{6}\times 90=75\,\text{km/h}\] Relative speed \[=90+75=165\]km/h Time taken to meet each other \[=\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Relative}\,\,\text{speed}}=\frac{88}{165}\] \[=\frac{8}{15}\text{h}=\frac{8}{15}\times 60\,\,\min =32\,\,\min \]
