    Let the larger number be x. \[\therefore \] Smaller number\[=x-2\] \[\therefore \]First number \[\times \]Second number = HCF \[\times \]LCM \[x\,\,(x-2)=24\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-2x-24=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{x}^{2}}-6x+4x-24=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x\,\,(x-6)+4\,\,(x-6)=0\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[(x-6)(x+4)=0\] \[\therefore \]      \[x=6\] because \[x\ne -\,\,4\]
