If the length of a rectangle is 5 cm more than its width and its area \[24\,\,c{{m}^{2}},\]what is the perimeter of the rectangle?

    A)  6 cm

    B)  11 cm

    C)  22 cm

    D)  121 cm

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Breadth of rectangle = x cm \[\therefore \]Length of rectangle \[=(x+5)\,\,\text{cm}\] \[\therefore \]      \[x\,\,(x+5)=24\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{x}^{2}}+5x-24=0\]\[\Rightarrow \]\[(x+8)(x-3)=0\] \[\therefore \]                  \[x=-\,\,8\] or 3 \[\therefore \] Length \[=3+5=8\text{ cm}\] and Breadth = 3 cm \[\therefore \]Perimeter \[=3+8+3+8=22\text{ cm}\]
