    The average marks of 48 students in a class is 45. The average marks of the boys in the class is 40 and the average marks of the girls in the class is 50. What is the ratio between the number of boys and girls in the class?

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    According to question, \[\frac{40x+50y}{48}=45\] \[4x+5y=216\]                          ?(i) \[x+y=48\]                                ?(ii) From Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get y = 24 and x = 24             \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{x}{y}=\frac{24}{24}=\frac{1}{1}=1:1\]
