A man lands Rs. 1200 in four sums. If he gets 5% for Rs. 300, 6% for Rs. 350 and 6.5% for Rs.  400. What percentage must be get for the remainder, if the average interest is 6.5%?

    A) 31%

    B)  \[6%\]

    C)  \[\frac{31}{3}%\]

    D)  \[\frac{32}{3}%\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

The interest of Rs. 300 at the rate of
    \[5%=300\times \frac{5}{100}\]= Rs. 15
The interest of Rs. 350 at the rate of
    \[6%=350\times \frac{6}{100}\]= Rs. 21
The interest of Rs. 400 at the rate of 65%
    \[=400\times \frac{6.50}{100}\]= Rs. 26
    \[\therefore \] Interest for Rs. 1050 \[(300+350+400)\]
    = Rs. \[(15+21+26)\] = Rs. 62
    \[\therefore \] The remainder sum \[=1200-1050\]= Rs. 150
\[\therefore \] Total interest required for Rs. 1200 at the rate of 6.5% is
    \[1200\times \frac{6.5}{100}\]= Rs. 78
\[\therefore \] Interest he gets for Rs. 150 is
    Rs. \[(78-62)\]= Rs. 16
    \[\therefore \] Interest on Rs. 150 in Rs. 16
\[\therefore \] Per cent interest for the remainder \[=\frac{32}{3}%\]
