    Solution :

    Let the number of girls be x. Then, the number of boys \[=(100-x)\] \[\therefore \]    \[2.40\times x+3.60\times (100-x)=312\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[\frac{240}{100}\times x+\frac{360\times (100-x)}{100}=312\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[240x+36000-360x=31200\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[12x=(36000-31200)=4800\] \[\Rightarrow \] \[x=\frac{4800}{120}=40\] \[\therefore \]Number of girls = 40
