    If an examination out of 1200 candidates 80% boys and 75% girls passed. If the total percentage of passed candidates be 75, what is the number boys who appeared in the examination?

    A) 520

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    Let the number of boys be x. \[\therefore \]      Number of girls \[=1200-x\] \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{x}{1200-x}=\frac{75-70}{80-75}\] or,        \[\frac{x}{1200-x}=\frac{5}{5}=\frac{1}{1}\] or,                    \[x=1200-x\] \[\therefore \]                  \[2x=1200\] \[\therefore \]                  \[x=600\]
