    If \[x=7-4\sqrt{3},\]the value of \[\left( x+\frac{1}{x} \right)\]is

    A)  \[3\sqrt{3}\]

    B)  \[8\sqrt{3}\]

    C)  \[14+8\sqrt{3}\]

    D)  \[14\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    \[x=7-4\sqrt{3}\] \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{1}{x}=\frac{1}{7-4\sqrt{3}}\] \[=\frac{1\,\,(7+4\sqrt{3})}{(7+4\sqrt{3})(7-4\sqrt{3})}\] \[=\frac{7+4\sqrt{3}}{49-48}=7+4\sqrt{3}=14\] \[\therefore \] \[=\frac{1}{4}\left( \frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{4} \right)=\frac{7}{48}\]
