    Let number be x. \[\therefore \] According to question, \[{{x}^{3}}-{{x}^{2}}=48\] \[{{x}^{2}}\,\,(x-1)=48\] \[{{x}^{2}}\,\,(x-1)=16\times 3\] \[{{x}^{2}}=16\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[x=4\] or                     \[(x-1)=3\]   \[\Rightarrow \]               \[x=3+1\] \[x=4\]
