The shadow of a 3m long stick is 4 m long. At the same time of the day, if the shadow of a flagstaff is 24 m long, how tall is the flagstaff?

    Answer:

Given, length of long stick = 3 m and length of shadow of long stick = 4 m Then, the ratio of long stick to shadow of long stick \[=3:4\] and shadow of a flagstaff = 24 m [given] since, according to the question, ratio of long stick to shadow of long stick is equal to the ratio of flagstaff to shadow of flagstaff] Let the length of flagstaff \[=x\text{ }m\] According to the question, \[3:4=x:24\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[\frac{3}{4}=\frac{x}{24}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{24\times 3}{4}\]          \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=18\] Hence, the length of flagstaff is 18 m.
