Recent reports of acid rains in big industrial cities are due to the effect of atmospheric pollution by

    A) more release of \[N{{O}_{2}}\] and \[S{{O}_{2}}\] by burning of fossil fuels

    B) more release of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] by burning of coal/wood cutting of forests and increasing populations

    C) excessive release of \[N{{H}_{3}}\] by coal gas/ industries

    D) excessive release of \[CO\] by incomplete combustion of carbonaceous fuels

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

More release of \[N{{O}_{^{2}}}\] and \[S{{O}_{^{2}}}\] cause acid rain. The acid rain is a mixture of \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] and \[HN{{O}_{3}}\]. The \[S{{O}_{2}}\] and \[N{{O}_{2}}\] produced during the combination of coal and petroleum reacts with water vapour and formed   \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] and \[HN{{O}_{3}}\], respectively. These acids combine with air droplets/water vapour causing acid rain.
